Shooting and trapping with friends! Dec 2006. Although I often go shooting and trapping by myself - usually at night, I equally enjoy taking friends along for the adventure. This time I went with a group of friends for some target shooting to hone our skills, and then searching for magpies, rabbits and wild chickens. Didn't see any of the above, but I'd set a box trap the night before and it had TWO possums in it! Great night. Photo from left: Me - holding my Remington, my son Sam holding a possum, Martin - holding His Ruger, Michael holding the second possum, his dad Stan - holding his breath, Garth - holding my Marlin. I forgot to take my pistol to shoot the possums in the box traps, so had to use the firearms. Now my trap has two extra holes in the end of it!!! When I'd set the box trap the day before, I pulled up on my bike, and there was a rabbit sitting in the exact spot! I quickly parked the bike, took my 'take-down' rifle out of my pack, assembled it and lined the rabbit up in my sights. It took off, and the chase began for about another 50 meters. I finally spotted it about 15 meters away in the bush. Since I was 'sighted in' to 25 meters, I put the crosshairs about 100mm above its body, and squeezed the trigger. Perfect shot with sub-Sonics! Another 'hit' to the tally! |
