Dedicated to Keeping New Zealand Cleaner and Greener!
Taupaki - March 2007
Went possum shooting with my oldest son Josiah - on a friend's farm in Taupaki, near Kumeu, West Auckland. 52 acres of fields and forest that have never been 'shot' before!
We arrived around 8pm, with around 45 minutes of light left. Immediately saw a Pukeko, but he hurried for cover. Although native, these birds are not fully protected, and are a real nuisance around farms - fowling the water troughs and carrying disease. We had a great walk around the farm and forest, but only saw one possum in a Pine tree, and weren't able to get a good shot at it.
Didn't get a 'kill' tonight, but had a great time together as father and son, even enjoyed a good 'aromatic cigar' together, something we haven't done for ages. In fact the last time was driving in Jo's MX5 with the 'top down' last summer.
