Night Shooting for Possums!
Sunday 10th August 2008
Two short videos
Woke up this morning to a heavy frost - meaning it had been a clear night with no rain.
Looks like the weather will hold out - so I texted a few mates and organised a night shoot at a friend's farm - in his native forest.
Heading out at around 7pm, night had already fallen, with around a 1/3rd moon.
Stopping for KFC, we hit the forest around 7:45pm - set a couple of leg traps and then headed out for a bush-crash for around 30 minutes.
Found heaps of evidence of wild pig!
Here's a short vid of us starting out on our shoot.
The rules were - you spot the possum - you get to shoot it!
Left to right - Amber, Logan, Kevin, Chris and Jason.
We bush crashed for around 30 minutes until coming to the edge of the forest, and then followed the bush line around the edge - looking for possums.
After about 10 minutes, Logan spotted two orange eyes shining back at us - around 50 meters away, high in a Pine tree.
Lining up the lazer, Logan let a stinger rip - hitting the branch. Another shot, and the possum started running, pausing for a few seconds - Logan loaded another Stinger in the chamber, lined up the laser and let another rip.
You know when you hit a possum - there is this distinct 'thud'.
Crashing to the ground through the branches - a perfect shot by Logan!
